Here in Cuenca’s Old Town, reminiscences of Ecuador’s history come alive.
Oozing Old World charm with its ornate, colonial-style furnishings and colorful murals, this historic hacienda was built in 1859 by the first governor of Ecuador’s Azuay Province and stayed in the family for over a century. Its two-and-a-half-year restoration began in 1999. Cozy rooms call to mind sepia-toned photos from a bygone era, while Inti restaurant (one of two on-site eateries) serves dishes inspired by Ecuador’s rich culinary heritage.
