Located in a once-abandoned burgh, Sextantio Albergo Diffuso is surrounded by rolling fields in the Apennine Mountains. Its historic architectural layers—from the Middle Ages to pre-Renaissance—are painstakingly preserved. Rooms retain authenticity with restored 17th-century wooden ceilings, indigenous furniture and centuries-old fireplaces. Yet remote controls in lieu of light switches and ivory bath fixtures juxtaposed against stucco walls add a subtly modern feel; it’s as if the village came out of the Middle Ages, if only for a moment, to peer into the 21st century.
