A one-time dairy farm, The Goodstone Inn & Estate's 6 historic buildings maintain pastoral beauty. There's no need to separate the sheep from the goats when all 265 acres are picture-perfect: Blue Ridge Mountains, pristine pastures, mellow meadows. And aside from the docile local cattle, there are no herds here. Instead, guests flock around easygoing games like bocce, badminton and shuffleboard, or scatter among hammocks and along Goose Creek. Out & About
Founded in 1787, the historic town of Middleburg in Virginia's Wine Country got its name from being the halfway point between Alexandria and Winchester on the Ashby Gap trading route (now Route 50). Today the town has an air of the French countryside with a distinctly Southern breeze brought in by its Civil War heritage.
