A resplendent Rockefeller vision leaves hints of Virginia’s storied past.
One of two hotels planned by John D. Rockefeller Jr. for Colonial Williamsburg, the Williamsburg Lodge, a Historic Hotel of America, complements its storied past with contemporary touches. Original hardwood and blue-stone floors shine under lantern-lined hallways. Works inspired by pieces at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum decorate rooms, and an original 1939 fireplace adorns the Lodge Lobby Lounge. But for a taste of the 21st century, dishes at Lodge Restaurant are culinary reminders of the progressive present.
